The Beginning of Louisville VOTF

It was a November evening in 2002 when a small Christian Community in Louisville met at the home of Cal & Nicki Pfeiffer for their weekly gathering. All of us, being good friends, chatted for awhile and then we tried to settle down for the night’s lesson. Shannon was the presider for the evening and for some reason we had a tough time getting started. Cal had to leave early (he left because he had a meeting with other victims that had been abused by Fr. Miller) but before leaving he had something to tell us.

He related to us that he had been abused by Fr. Louis Miller as a child at Holy Spirit while serving as an altar boy. All sorts of emotion filled the room: surprise, shock, anger, tears, sadness, mistrust, hurt. You name it … we experienced it. Cal left shortly after he told his story and the topic of discussion for the rest of the night was how can we help Cal and others that were victims of child abuse by the clergy. That night we had a lot to take home to think about.
