Poetry
While the other Sources for Healing: Songs, Bible Verses, Quotes and particularly Prayers hopefully provides healing for v/s from different points of view. The selected poems are like a 2 sided coin, one side conveys the pain and feelings v/s experience, opening a window to their soul so non v/s can get a glimpse of the damage inflicted on them. Yet some of the other poems provide a pathway to healing.
NOTE – The poem “A Beacon of Hope” was intended to be wording for an informational invitation/brochure. Somehow, some way the words began to flow as a poem that provides understanding and hope for healing.
Victim to Survivor
No one listens to “not a real man”
Am I powerful cultural myth but not anymore,
Everyone is meant to contend with me but not so, for I am not a real man
Was meant to be a role model,
But a difficult bad influence
My neighbor, my class-perfect you committed and abomination!
Girls had great expectations from me but I did not reciprocate,
For I was not a real man.
My choices taken away, a brooding silence assailed me.
Am grown now I am telling it to the world.
I was sexually abused, sodomized by catholic adherents.
Am telling it to the world, so that you don’t get away with it .!

Song for Elizabeth
I see your face, see your eyes full of hope looking up at us.
I feel your trust in us, and your gays of gratefulness.
I see a child, lonely child, trusting child, betrayed.
I see a life lived just trying to escape.
Your garden path, no tears will trace,
It’s growing courage, truth and grace.
No more anger buried in your bones. I hope and I pray, yes, hope and I pray
That you finally feel at home.
I’m just glad that I had this time to get to know you.
I will call your name in every garden that I go to.
I hope that God is wrapping her arms around you,
Showing you joy in a life brand new.
Once a child, lonely child, betrayed.
Now on warrior showing us the way.
I’m so glad that you found us. I hope & I pray, yes, I hope & I pray
That you hear us calling your name.
I’m so glad we found you this link that connects and binds.
It frees us to be who we are meant to be for all time.
Will the circle be unbroken, by and by, by and by.

The Betrayal
One word, one touch
changed my life.
Where is the outrage?
Catholic cover-up,
Heads in the sand,
Butts in the air!
One word, one touch
changed my life.
Where is the outrage?
Do they understand the abuse, the betrayal?
Are they in denial?
Are they able to feel my enormous pain?
One word, one touch
changed my life.
Where is the outrage?
Young, naïve, vulnerable;
Stalked, targeted.
Prey for insatiable sexual appetite.
One word, one touch
changed my life.
Where is the outrage?
Tears flow,
Mental duress overwhelms.
Who understands?
One word, one touch
changed my life.
Where is the outrage?
I must go on.
I must speak my truth.
Will anyone listen?
One word, one touch
changed my life.
Where is the outrage?
Dirty, smelly garbage!
A wasted life!
Is that what I am worth?
One word, one touch
changed my life.
Where is the outrage?
How do I live?
How do I go on?
Will I ever raise my head again?
One word, one touch
changed my life.
Where is the outrage?
The keepers of God’s grace go merrily on!
Nothing to stop them!
Accountability, where is it?
One word, one touch
changed my life.
Where is the outrage?
Now is the time of silence!
Time to sweep us under the rug!
It’s over, get a life !!!
One word, one touch
changed my life.
Where is the outrage?
The Quilt
I feel like I have finally found a home.
I have many brothers and sisters!
We are like pieces of cloth,
Discarded in an old attic.
Someone has finally found us!
As the dust and cobwebs are brushed away,
The beauty of each piece of cloth is admired.
Our voices for so long been silenced
are finally being heard.
Gradually our pieces of cloth take shape
into a tapestry of beautiful colors.
We are no longer alone!
We are sexual abuse survivors!
What do you see?
After a While You Learn
After a while you learn
The subtle difference between
Holding a hand and chaining a soul
And you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning
And company doesn’t always mean security.
And you begin to learn
That kisses aren’t contracts
And presents aren’t promises
And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes ahead
With the grace of a woman
Not the grief of a child
And you learn
To build all your roads on today
Because tomorrow’s ground is
Too uncertain for plans
And futures have a way
Of falling down in mid flight
After a while you learn
That even sunshine burns if you get too much
So you plant your own garden
And decorate your own soul
Instead of waiting
For someone to bring you flowers
And you learn
That you really can endure
That you are really strong
And you really do have worth
A Beacon of Hope
As I drift through the sea of life,
having my hull smashed and gushing,
as I ponder my peril,
I see a Beacon of Hope.
Shining in the distance,
through the darkness of night,
I don’t know if I will make it to safe harbor.
And as I hang on to what’s left of my vessel,
I see a Beacon of Hope.
As the sea begins to swell and
the unknown is all about,
I long for the time when I was sure of safe passage.
As pedophile reefs, hidden from sight,
ripped out my aft; I thought I would drown.
I looked to the builders for solace and assurance,
but found malice and malaise.
Then out of nowhere, came God’s gentle voice.
He said He loved me and invited me to a special place.
The monks of Gethsemani offered their home
to share their peace and quiet and holy site.
I came to the Beacon of Hope.
For the first time, in a long time,
I felt welcome in God’s home.
Stripped of pomp and ceremony,
gone was the hypocrisy and arrogance.
Through silence … I could hear.
The Rules of Saint Benedict are still followed to this day
that all guests represent Christ and have a claim
on the welcome and care of the community.
The Beacon shines far and wide
and is powered by the Light of the World.

Yearning
Parched and pleading
In nightfall obsession
Tossing, turning
Into sleepless day
Into Sleepless day break
Soul search semblance
Restless, yearning
To sleep, to dream
To fly away from here
To fly away
To fly away from here
Violated
Lured by lurid temps
Caught in confusion
Touches turned into cuts
that covered me with blood and blame
Lost and lonely
In private silent cries
How could God ever love
This broken body shame
Solitary Confinement
Can’t tell anyone
Mothers, Fathers
No one needs to know
These sordid secrets
God keeps those
Who keep to themselves
In flightless fear
His suffering Souls
Powerless To resist what God, commands
Masquerade
Master of Illusion
Pretending and hiding
All along I’m denying
That I’m withering on the vine
Just withering on the vine
Masked by my delusion
As I’m clinging to the lies
That I’m not alone, slowly dying
See, everything is fine
Everything is fine
Ordered Chaos
Senseless struggles
in barren landscapes
Pensive permission
Hollow words will not erase
Anguish unabated
But restful waters weight
Beyond the bonds
Where Freedom Reigns
Rain down
Discernment
In my soul’s most secret place
Amid dampened ash and embers
The longing eyes of the Living God
Surprise and find me
God’s voice canceling noise
Invites me to remember
Truth long suppressed:
You are worthy, good and loved
Tranquil tears from God’s eyes
Mixed with mine in soft convergence
Into a gentle sea I rest
I rest
Afloat in infinite azure
Metamorphosis
Gone the virulent voices of denial
No more frozen in fear
No longer tethered to the line
of Shame and isolation
Open wide the ancient doors
Calling forth the change
Break free of feudal resistance
And endless trepidation
Rise anew in love and light
Soaring free in endless sky
Restored in the art of human being
Rise anew in love and light
Soaring free and endless sky
Restored in the art of human being
Desecration
Cleric color pagans
Beating stealthy drums
Lies and hypocrisy
Cloaked and tinted sanctimony
Crimes against humanity
Blatant betrayal of the entrusted
Poison thorns
Piercing the flesh
Piercing the soul of Christ
Emergence
Cave dweller Darkness
Gives way to stirrings
Of signs and sounds
Of Greater Goods
Daylight breaks
Illuminates, leading slowly
Out of the Shadows
Walk in the light
walk in the light
Dance
Fly
